in the soft foggy warmth
of nightdreams and daydreams
the air is always still and
the sky is always moving, moving
rocking me not-so-gently like
a cradle on the raving sea
whispering "wake up! never wake up"
as flashes of lightning (longing)
erupt in dance across the water
i imagine they are sharing
sweet nothings, or everythings
while we stand barefoot watching
from a sandbar in the distance
breathing their secrets to one another
so upon certain revelations we
begin to dance in the pale light
my hands on the small of your back
and your arms draped about my neck
as i steal a smile from your lips
and assure you that nothing! is
softer than your cheek on mine!
we fall exhausted onto the sand
which takes delight in your hair
and the back of your neck and
fear vanishes. silently fading.
until looking in your eyes i know
it's safe to wake, to live, to be
because you hold me in your heart.
